5 Key Signs That You Have Hidden Cockroaches

Hidden cockroaches can be a major problem for homeowners. You see, the issue with these pests is that they are often completely invisible. This is because cockroaches are extremely good at hiding away and also because they mostly come out at night.

Due to this, you may be completely unaware that you actually have these pests. So, how do you know if these pests are in your home? Here are five things to watch out for.

Spotting hidden cockroaches in your home

1. Droppings

This is by far the biggest sign of hidden cockroaches in your home. Cockroach droppings are easy to spot. They appear as small brown pellets which are 2-3mm in size. These are most often found in places like cupboards. You’ll also find them near to sources of food and water. If there are a large number of these droppings lying around, then you could have a sizeable infestation.

2. Shed Skin

As they grow larger, cockroaches routinely shed their skin. This skin looks like fine brown, almost transparent paper. Cockroaches also routinely shed things like their antennas, legs and wings. Seeing any of these things is a definite sign that these pests are in your home. This is especially true if you’re seeing large amounts of this stuff in your kitchen.

3. Egg sacs

Female cockroaches produce an egg casing known as oothecae. Each of these cases is about 5-10mm in length and contains around 16 eggs. These cases are light to dark brown in colour and oblong shaped. Cockroaches usually hide these cases in hard to reach places. This usually includes cracks, crevices and behind/underneath large objects. Search in these places with a torch. If you spot one or more of these cases, then you definitely have hidden cockroaches.

4. You have allergic reactions

Are your allergies flaring up without any explanation? The cause could be hidden cockroaches and is one of the dangers of cockroaches. Yes, believe it or not, many people are allergic to these pests. This is because cockroaches contain allergens. These are found in the parts of cockroaches that shed, such as their skin. Allergens are also present in their egg casings and droppings. Basically, if you’re experiencing flu-like symptoms and can’t explain why, the reason could be cockroaches.

5. You keep getting ill

Cockroaches are the filthiest pests you’ll ever encounter. They carry hundreds of different types of bacteria, making them a health risk. The problem is that cockroaches could be crawling over your food and food preparation areas. This often happens without your knowledge, and can lead to serious illness. This most often manifests as food poisoning or diarrhoea. If this happens over and over, then the cause could be cockroaches.
