Keep Flies Out When Doors Or Windows Are Open

Flies can often become a problem, especially during summer. This is very true in the case of people who run restaurants and other eating establishments. But what can you do about this? How can you keep flies out and protect yourself from the harmful diseases they carry?

This may seem like a slightly counterintuitive question. After all, the way to keep flies out is to simply close your doors and windows. Do this and 90% of the problem is solved. Unfortunately, this isn’t always possible. For example, during summer you’ll want doors and windows open. Pest control can help you deal with flies.

How to to screen openings and keep flies out

Also, in the case of kitchen doors, the door is always opening and closing. Basically, keeping doors and windows closed as a way to keep flies out is neither possible or practical. So what can you do instead?

The most obvious and simple solution is to place screens over your windows. Many people are against this because they think these screens look ugly. Other people simply don’t want screens over their windows. But what you might not know is that these do not have to be permanent. It’s now possible to buy temporary screens that stick with magnets. In the case of doors, you can install a screen door.

If you don’t want to use screens there are many more options options with this pest control challenge. Plastic flap doors also work well to keep flies out. Something else you may want to consider are bead curtains, blinds, and net curtains. All of these work well to prevent flies from getting into the house.

Other methods of keeping flies out

Another good method is to use reflective objects. You see, flies have compound eyes which are extremely sensitive to light. This means that reflective light rays actually blind and confuse flies, causing them to fly away. While this is not the most effective method, it’s worth experimenting with. For example, you can try hanging small mirrors in front of your windows.

There are also natural methods which may work to avoid food contamination. First of all, flies hate eucalyptus oil. Simply take strips of cloth, drop the oil onto them, and hang these in your window and door frames. You can also place cloves and lemon halves on your window ledge or near doors.

Finally, fly traps can be made and also left on window ledges or near doors. A simple method is to cut a plastic bottle in half. Next, invert the — bottom. Then fill this bottle with apple cider vinegar. The flies have an attraction to the apple cider vinegar but will not be able to find their way out.
